Handcrafted Dollhouse Secretaire or Secretary in 1:12 Scale
The origin of the secretary desk is a portable station for a roving clerk to carry his utensils, but (because the clerk position is mostly outdated, and most briefcases perform the function now) the secretary desk is more like what used to be called a davenport. a desk with a hinged lid that opens outwards for writing space.
A secretaire or secretary desk and a davenport are not the same thing at all. The former is a fairly large desk with an horizontal writing area, and pigeonholes and small drawers facing you. They sometimes had concealed areas built in. The whole writing and pigeonhole area is covered by a folding lid of various configurations. A davenport is a small desk having a sloped exposed writing surface at it's top, pilasters in front, and a bank of drawers at one end.
This secretary desk is a limited edition. THey are signed, numbered and dated.
